August 8th, 2014 7:00 P.M. @ The Salvation Army-Capital Area

Greetings CMARC Family and Friends,

The next monthly meeting of the “Central Michigan Amateur Radio Club” will be on Friday, August 8th (at our NEW TIME of 7:00 PM) in the Salvation Army building, located at 701 W. Jolly Road in Lansing. Our speaker for August will be Mr. Larry Camp/WB8R, the ARRL Great Lakes Division, Michigan Section Manager. Larry will be presenting a program on the ARRL's Centennial (which will include a video), because this year, the American Radio Relay League is celebrating 100 years of “Advancing the Art and Science of Radio.” He will explain how the ARRL, from its meager beginnings in 1914, has become the national association for Amateur Radio in the USA and is the largest organization of Radio Amateurs in the world!

All of this against the backdrop of the annual “CMARC Summer Potluck”! That's right, it's time again for our “INDOOR PICNIC” and just like last year, the Club is springing for the hot dogs and brats with all the fixings, and members are asked to bring anything that makes for a good Summer picnic like potato salad, baked beans, potato chips, beverages, etc. And let's not forget all the yummy desserts, either! We are SURE to have good food, good fun and good fellowship, so come on out to the August meeting for the social event of the Summer! For more information, you can check out our website at www.centralmiarc.com or consult our Club Contact Don McLain/KB8RAD at (517) 694-0812 or KB8RAD@arrl.net. See you ALL there!!

May 9th, 2014 6:00pm @ Delhi Café (4625 Willoughby Rd. in Holt)

Greetings CMARC Family and Friends,

WOW, do you realize that the due date for turning in your Reservations/Orders for CMARC's Ladies Night/Ziegenbein Banquet is almost here?? It sure is!! Your orders MUST be turned in by Thursday, May 1st, so I can notify Delhi Café!! And for all of those who haven't made your plans to attend yet, I KNOW you'll want to get those in, because if you don't, you won't be one of the first to congratulate the winner of this year's Ziegenbein Award, and you won't be able to partake in a fun-filled evening with your fellow Hams!!

Now, maybe some of you newer Hams are asking, "What is the Ladies Night Banquet?" Well, CMARC hosts a Banquet every year to honor CMARC's Ladies. We also use this annual event as an opportunity for presenting the prestigious Ziegenbein Award to a special Ham who has contributed the most to Amateur Radio in general, and CMARC in particular, for the previous calendar year!

So, I hope you will all circle Friday, May 9th (6:00pm SHARP!!) on your calendars, if you haven't already! Then come on out and enjoy some delicious food at the Delhi Café (4625 Willoughby Rd. in Holt), while sharing good conversation as you visit with your CMARC family and friends. And I dare you to try and keep from singing as we listen to the "Men From Orpheus", a local men's glee club. We'll also have a little gift for the Ladies to take home, along with a special, beautifully decorated cake for all of us to enjoy for desert!!

Remember, your Reservations/Orders MUST be turned in by Thursday May 1st! And, for your convenience, I have attached a form for you to print off and complete -> Click Here For The Rsvp / Menu Form For May's Banquet.
You can either call me, email me or you may send your form snail mail. DO NOT SEND ME ANY MONEY!! You will pay Delhi Café on the night of the Banquet and remember, your gratuity will NOT be added automatically to your bill, so please don't forget to leave a nice tip for your server!! Now I KNOW you WON'T want to miss this fun-filled evening, so I'll see you all there!!

August 10th, 2012 7:30pm @ The Salvation Army-Capital Area

Our program for the month of August will be “The Bob and Carl Show”!! Bob Berger/K8RDN and Carl Canfield/K8YHH have prepared a presentation to teach us about “Fldigi”. Fldigi is a computer program that is used with your computer sound card to code and decode tones which are sent to the transmitter or receiver of your rig. Fldigi is capable of many digital modes so you only have to learn one program! Using digital modes to communicate, you can send and receive some of the digital mode signals below the noise floor of your receiver—which means being able to receive messages that you can't even hear! Fldigi also has the ability to use auto-message forms to send and receive emergency traffic messages and have them on your computer screen to save or print. These are a type of message which allows you to send and receive chat modes. If you have a PC and a rig, come to our August meeting on Friday the 10th and learn how you can explore the world of digital communication! We are certain to have a great time!! July 13th, 2012 7:30pm @ The Salvation Army-Capital Area

Greetings!

The next monthly meeting of the “Central Michigan Amateur Radio Club” will be on Friday, July 13th at 7:30pm in the Salvation Army building, located at 701 W. Jolly Road in Lansing. Our program speaker for July will be none other than CMARC’s own Gregg Mulder/WB8LZG, who will be discussing the “Bruce Array”. This antenna has been around now since the 1920’s, but has been largely forgotten by many Hams, except for some like Gregg, who have used it with great success at Field Day. This is going to be a very interesting and informative meeting, so come on out and join us!.

Thanks and 73,
Donald L. McLain - KB8RAD
CMARC Vice President
